Ms. Theresa Ann Jackson

Salina Elementary School Principal

Ms. Theresa Ann Jackson grew up in Salina, Oklahoma and graduated from Salina High School in 1970.  She married a young man from Adair, Oklahoma in her senior year and, after graduation, moved to Adair.  She is the mother of one daughter and two sons.  Her family continues to grow with her son-in-law, daughters-in law, eleven grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren with another on the way in May.

When her youngest son started Kindergarten, Ms. Jackson started college at Northeastern Oklahoma State University where she earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees.  She holds Oklahoma Certification in Elementary Education, Language Arts, School Administration, and as a Reading Specialist. Ms. Jackson began her teacher career in Adair in 1984 where she taught third grade for eight years and was the Reading Specialist for three years.  She moved to Checotah and taught sixth and seventh grade language arts for two years at Checotah Middle School.

A move brought her back to the Pryor area to live so her youngest son could finish high school and graduate from Adair High School as his sister and brother had done.  While living in Pryor, she taught fifth grade at Washington Elementary for eight years.  During her time living and teaching in Pryor, she worked on her Master’s Degree in School Administration.  Shortly after the completion of her degree, she became the Principal at Washington Elementary for the next eight years.  Noting her effective leadership abilities, Ms. Jackson was tasked by the district administration with turning around Lincoln Elementary, the largest elementary school in the Pryor System.

On May 2, 2013, a life changing event, the death of her daughter, caused Ms. Jackson to go into retirement in order to deal with this devastating loss in a more private fashion.  As time passed, she began to miss the educational environment and the people that are so dedicated to the students of Mayes County.  She realized she wanted to return to her chosen profession.  Ms. Jackson’s sister told her about the need for someone to help tutor reading students in Salina.  She saw this as an opportunity to work a few days a week and to do what she enjoys most, teaching students to read and to have confidence in themselves.

Recognizing her commitment to educating children and her past accomplishments, Ms. Jackson was encouraged by many to apply for the position of Salina Elementary School Principal.  She serves the Salina Community in this role today, leading the efforts of an impressive staff of educators who strive to make Salina Elementary School a joyous place to be each and every day.  The two most important aspects of Ms. Jackson’s life are her family and her role in educating the children of Salina, Oklahoma.
